Journey through the Hidden Valley.
Ancient Tibetan Buddhist texts state that Langtang is a beyul, a hidden valley, established by the great tantric yogi Padmasambhav, or Guru Rinpoche, as he is known by the Tibetans. Langtang, a 1,710-sq km National Park in north-central Nepal that encompasses rugged snow-capped peaks, glacier-carved valleys, steep forested mountains and splendid wildlife habitat, is a sheer delight, especially for ecologists. Here, in just a single day, you can trek from the sub-tropics to the timberline, traversing about five different vegetation zones. You can literally be under a banana tree in the morning and be standing next to a glacier in the evening watching the alpine glow on the mountains. The vegetation is an artists palette of green colours, ranging from dark, almost blue-green to Tibetan turquoise-like green and bright emerald. In the jungle, with shafts of light slanting down through the tall trees and bamboo, there are more shades of green than you would ever imagine Langtang is the nearest National Park from Kathmandu and, therefore, just as suitable for even those with a tight schedule to experience a fascinating Himalayan adventure. Langtang valley, today, is no longer hidden.
Arrive at the airport in Kathmandu. Loben Expeditions representative will meet you outside the customs and immigration area and transfer you to your hotel. The afternoon is free to relax, recover from jet lag, or explore on your own.
From Kathmandu, you will drive for 7-8 hours by bus to Syabrubensi, the starting point of your trek to the heart of Langtang National Park. Overnight in lodge.
Begin your trek early in the morning. On this day you will walk mostly Up-hill for 5-6 hours until you reach Lama Hotel (2,540 m). The trail winds up the Sub-tropical foliage, but as you leave the Langtang river gorge and begin gaining elevation, you will enter the rhododendron zone. When the rhododendron flowers explode in a flash of iridescent colours, the sight is simply mesmerizing.
You will trek for 5-6 hours on this day. The trail first winds up and then descends to the Langtang valley (3,420 m). You will pass the settlement of Ghora Tabela (3,000 m) en route.
This days trek of 4-5 hours to Kyanjin Gompa (3,900), a small Buddhist monastery, is mostly uphill. It is possible to trek a bit further from Kyanjin Gompa for an excellent view of Langtang Lirung, Dorje Lakpa and Lenpo Gang peaks.
You will make a side trip to the glaciers. If possible we will attempt Kyangjin Ri (4700 m) to view even taller peaks like Mt. Shishapangma (8021 m). Camp here is in a superd location and is dominated by the fluted North-west face of Gangchempo.
This day marks the beginning of your return journey. The walk on this day of 5-6 hours is mostly downhill to Ghora Tabela.
From Ghora Tabela, you will walk on a trail that combines gentle ascents and descents until you reach Thulo Sabru.
From here, you will be walking downhill most of the way for 4-5 hours to the trailhead of Syabrubensi.
From Syabrubensi, you will drive back to Kathmandu, retracing the same route along the Trisuli River that you had come.
In leisure. Evening celebration meal. Optional trips (City sightseeing, day rafting & Everet Mountain flight).
Loben Expeditions representative will meet you at schedule time to transfer you to airport for onward flight
